Tropical Depression Five

Good morning folks,

The Canadian Hurricane Centre and NOAA are now keeping track of Potential Tropical Cyclone Five.

👉 This is VERY EARLY but the current track prediction has this potentially headed toward Atlantic Canada.
👉 This is the first potential storm of the season to monitor for local impacts.
👉 The current track has this as a Category 2 Hurricane at 3am on Saturday (August 17) while still just east of Georgia/South Carolina, well south of Atlantic Canada.
👉 We’ve added the basic information about a Cat 2 Hurricane here as well.

At 500 AM AST (0900 UTC), the disturbance was centered near latitude 14.4 North, longitude 52.5 West. The system is moving toward the west near 25 mph (41 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue with some decrease in forward speed during the next couple of days.

On the forecast track, the disturbance is expected to move across portions of the Leeward Islands on Tuesday and approach the U.S. and British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico Tuesday evening.
