Ophelia (September 2005)
Hurricane Ophelia’s legacy in Atlantic Canada is one of a slow-moving storm that, while not devastating, tested the region’s resilience and preparedness.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center began monitoring a tropical depression on September 12 that eventually became Tropical Storm Fiona on September 15, 2022. The storm increased in intensity as it moved through the southern Atlantic attaining category 4 status.
Prior to making landfall in Nova Scotia, Hurricane Fiona was downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone. Despite the change, it was one of the most impactful storms ever to hit Atlantic Canada.
